What is a kitchen garden?

Our kitchen gardens are raised bed gardens with the focus on growing year round vegetables, herbs, and native pollinator plants. You may choose to only do vegetables or you may prefer only herb beds. A native pollinator bed is also a favorite!

What services do you offer?

We offer a wide range of garden design services including helping you find the right location, installation, planting in-season plants, coaching and maintenance of existing gardens.

What areas do you serve?

We serve all of eastern South Carolina, from the Columbia area to the beaches.

Do you offer virtual consultations?

Yes! We provide online consultations for clients who prefer remote services or live outside our local area. All you need is a good internet connection and a few photos or videos of your space and the ability to join a Teams or Zoom call.

How much space do I need?

Space needed depends on your goals and the desired outcome. A family of 2 will require much less space than a family of 4 or more.

How much sunlight do I need?

Most plants require at least 6-8 hours of sunlight daily, although a little shade doesn’t hurt in South Carolina.

Can beginners start a raised bed garden?

100% yes. Most of your success will come from your set up (water source, sunlight, and the right soil). We make it easy for you to start and maintain a raised garden by setting you up for success and via our coaching services.

What happens during a paid consultation?

We offer two types of consultations – in person and virtual. During the consultation, we will listen to your goals and then walk the property to determine the best garden location based on sunlight, proximity to a water source and accessibility. We will measure the ideal space and determine the space available for a raised bed garden. If you wish to move forward, we will provide an estimate for an installation or will discuss options for DIY.

What vegetables grow best in South Carolina?

South Carolina’s climate is suitable to grow vegetables year round. For more details, visit our blog post on the subject.

How much does a raised bed garden cost?

Costs vary greatly depending on number of raised beds, amount of soil needed, types of pathways and edging in the garden bed area. We can do a small garden for one person or a large setup for an extended family.

How long does installation take?

Again, this depends on many factors and may take as little as a few days or longer than a month.

How much maintenance does a kitchen garden require?

You will want to commit to at least a few hours a week that may include watering, pruning, or harvesting. We recommend that you at least walk through your garden for a few minutes every day or every other day.

Can you help with an existing garden?

We can help with an existing garden but cannot guarantee success without knowing exactly how your garden was installed.

Do you offer ongoing support?

Absolutely! We want you to be successful in the garden so we offer continued support through coaching packages and maintenance packages.

How do I get started?

The best place to start is through an on-site consultation. Reach out to [email protected] to schedule

Can you help me source trellises, obelisks or other garden products?

Yes! Let us know what you’re looking for and we can help you find it!
